Week 1

This summer I will go to South Africa and see my country play in the famous event called the Fifa Soccer World Cup. To get to South Africa I have to make a very hard and exhausting trip. My first stop is Switzerland. This week I landed in Zurich where I will stay 2 days and then continue my trip. In Switzerland the majority of the people talk english so the only way to communicate is in that language so I had to constantly talk in english with many people which helped me to make mi english skills better. Constantly I had to talk english to ask for something or buy something and the people

understood my english.

Week 2

P1000341.jpg

This week i finally arrived to South Africa. On my arrival I was surprised because of how modern South Africa is everyone imagines it like a normal place and not interesting to visit. For the world cup the Fifa invested millions of dollars on this huge Project because it will be the first World Cup ever held in the African continent. As i arrived in my way to the hotel i saw many banners or posters that said “Ke Nako” and many other African words. I was curios and when I finally got to the hotel I started to ask what it meant and “Ke Nako” means its time meaning that is time for Africa to show the world they ready to hold a big event like this and maybe a African country winning the world cup, also I learned thatin South Africa they have 11 different languages that they use to communicate and the one I heard they talked the most was Zulu and the majority or maybe the whole South Africa could talk english and that was the language I used to communicate to ask questions and clear my thoughts of what some South African phrases meant.

Week 3

1 week has pass since I arrived to South Africa and during the week I saw a variety of games the majority of the games I have seen have been in Johannesburg because that’s the city where i am staying and from where I go to visit other city’s. In total I will see 11 games including the 3 of Honduras. The most exiting games I saw this week where the 2 that Honduras played versus Chile and Spain. It was a historical moment because it was only the 2 time Honduras had played in a world cup and I had the opportunity to be part of this historical event. Even do we lost both games without scoring a goal I enjoyed my country represent us between the best 32 soccer teams in the world and just by participating it’s a great achievement.

Week 4

This week was my final week in South Africa. I had to make an exhausting trip of many hours to get to Miami. During the many hours I had to be on a plane I watched a variety of movies but the one that got my attention was Invictus. Invictus is a very interesting movie that is based on South Africa’s division of white people and black people. South Africa was mostly divided because the black people preferred to play soccer and called it as their sport and the white people preferred rugby and was the major sport in the country. At first t was hard for colored people to accept Rugby but when Mandela came to power he saw everything in a different way and united his country. It’s amazing to see how a simple sport like Rugby could unite a nation with many problems of hate between both white and black people. This movie also gave me a clear idea of what Mandela had to sacrifice for the unity of their country. Morgan Freeman plays Nelson Mandela and Mat Damon plays the captain of the Rugby team that wins the World Cup of Rugby haled in South Africa. This movie called more my attention because I recently had been in South Africa and learned a lot about their culture but I had not seen what Mandela did that made him so famous and loved by so many people.

Week 5

This week I finally landed back in America. I’m going to stay a few weeks in Miami, Florida. I went to the movies and watched a very interesting movie called The Karate Kid in which the Jackie Chan plays the master and Jaden Smith plays the karate kid. At first the movie didn’t call my attention but my family really wanted to go see the movie. Years ago they had made this movie and this is a modern version of the Karate Kid they did years ago. The movie is about a kid who goes and lives to China with his mom because she got a new job. The kid at first dislikes living there and then when he stars liking it a gang of kids from his same school start to bully him and hurting him. The kid asks for help to the janitor of the building where he lives and he becomes a great fighter. He fights the kid that most bullies him in the final of very recognized karate tournament made all the years and Jaden with a broken leg continues fighting and wins the fight and the respectof all the kidsin the school and the love of a girl he felled in love.

Week 6

This week was a very interesting week. The final of the Fifa World Cup were finally defined and the great game was Spain vs. Holland. I went to see the final game at the movies because AMC theaters where hosting a special event where you could watch the final game in 3D. Me, mi family, and some friends went to see the exiting game in which Spain finally won. The game was narrated by English narrators who are the same voices that narrate games also in the video game of Fifa 2010. At first it was hard to me to catch up with what he was saying because of the British accent but then I could get it quickly because I have heard those narrators to many times always y play fifa so it made it easy to me to understand and enjoy the game. Watching this great game in 3D was amazing I had never seen a soccer game in 3D and it was like if you where really there in the stadium. It was a good experience andI hope to see much more soccer games in 3D and now its easier for me to hear soccer games narrated in English.

Week 7

This week I finally got back home in Honduras. Being more than 1 month out of my country really is not easy I really missed being here. I started summer classes with Miss Carol Martinez for 1 week. Inthe summer classes first I reviewed what I had seen throughout the year in Algebra 2 in 9 grade. It was easy to me at first because I had already seen everything and I just needed to refresh my memory. Then I saw a little bit or the introduction of Geometry which is what I would see in 10 grade and this is helpful for me so I could start school with a fresh memory in math which is my lowest grade in my report cards. In this summer classes we have to communicate ourselves by English because it’s a summer English and math camp where also my brother is going but I just decided to take math because its where I am having more problems and I hope that his classes help me a lot.

Week 8

This final week I saw a movie that I have seen many times but never get bored of seeing it. The movie is called 2012 directed by Ronald Emmerich. This movie is about the end of the world where everyone was warned because of the Mayan calendar that the end of the world was going to be December 21, 2012 but everyone refused to believe. Geologist discovered that the earth was coming to his end so the United States started to make huge arches that would resist the impact of the whole world flooded in water. Only few people survived some that have paid billions of dollars to buy a ticket to survival. The disaster occurred before they had expected it so they could not finish the 7 arches and just finished 3. At the end they survived the impact the 3 arches and stayed living there for some months and then finally all the disasters had finished and the whole world except Africa was flooded in water so they heeded to Africa and started a new world. This movie never bores me because it always make me think deeper on what could happen in the future and if this could be real and scares me but its always interesting for me.images-1.jpegimages-2.jpeg
